A traveling route is calculated between the present position of a vehicle and its destination point, and this calculation result is displayed on a screen. If a unified mode is not set in all sections, the mode switching points (way points) are specified on the traveling route. This state is kept until a mode is set to decide the control characteristics of hitherto sections. When this mode is set, a table is formed to show the correspondence between the sections divided by the way points and the control modes and then stored. These sections and control modes are quite freely set by a driver.
