Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To flexibly cope with a characteristic of braking timing by a driver and an environmental condition surrounding a vehicle.
SOLUTION: This vehicle controller has a photographing means for photographing an image outside the own vehicle, and a template storage means for storing a template for detecting approaching of other vehicle. The template is updated properly time to time based on a braking operation by the driver. The vehicle controller has also a recognition-processing means for judging whether deceleration or stopping of the own vehicle is required or not, because of the approaching of the vehicle traveling in its front side, by comparing the photographed image with the template. A collision avoiding operation is executed in the own vehicle by an operation indicating means, when the deceleration or stopping is judged to be required by the recognition-processing means and when the collision avoiding operation such as release or actuation of an acceleration pedal is not executed by the driver.
