A vehicle drive control apparatus (2A) includes: a first rotary electric machine (4 or MG1); a power distribution mechanism (5) having three mutually-differentially-rotatable distribution-elements to any one of which an internal-combustion engine is coupled and to any other one of which the first rotary electric machine is coupled; a second rotary electric machine (10 or MG2) coupled to a remaining one of the distribution elements of the power distribution mechanism; a transmission member (6) coupled to the remaining one of the distribution elements of the power distribution mechanism; an output member (7) which outputs power to drive wheels of the vehicle; a transmission mechanism (8) having two or more mutually-differentially-rotatable elements, which is installed as a power transmission route from the transmission member to the output member; a determination unit (30) which determines whether a request output torque requested to the second rotary electric machine upon starting the internal-combustion engine by the first rotary electric machine exceeds an allowable upper limit value; and a control unit (30), which controls the transmission mechanism in such a way that a transmission gear ratio is shifted to one at which rotation of the second rotary electric machine is mechanically locked, when determined that the request output torque exceeds the allowable upper limit value.
