Abstract:
To continue follow-up traveling for a comparatively long time.SOLUTION: A vehicle traveling control device (10) can execute follow-up traveling control for allowing an own vehicle (1) to travel while following a preceding vehicle (2) on condition that the own vehicle speed is equal to or lower than a prescribed speed, and that an inter-vehicle distance between the own vehicle and the preceding vehicle is equal to or less than a prescribed distance. The vehicle traveling control device includes: acquisition means (11) for acquiring congestion information on congestion around the own vehicle; and control means (12) which continues the follow-up traveling control in such a manner that the own vehicle speed does not exceed a reference speed equal to or lower than the prescribed speed when the presence of the congestion is detected on the basis of the congestion information during the execution of the follow-up traveling control, and then starts prescribed control for ending the follow-up traveling control when the own vehicle speed reaches the reference speed, and the inter-vehicle distance reaches a reference distance equal to or less than the prescribed distance.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
