Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle mounted radar in which the accuracy of distance and relative speed are enhanced while shortening the detection period of a target over a wide range by enhancing the distance resolution and the relative speed resolution depending on the traveling conditions.
SOLUTION: The vehicle mounted radar comprises a transceiver including an FM modulator 1 generating an FM modulation signal, a voltage controlled oscillator 2 generating an electromagnetic wave FM modulated by the FM modulation signal, an antenna 4 transmitting the FM modulated electromagnetic wave, an antenna 6 receiving the electromagnetic wave reflected from a preceding vehicle 5, and a mixer 7 producing a beat signal by mixing the FM modulated electromagnetic wave and the electromagnetic wave from the receiving antenna, a signal processor 9 for calculating the relative speed and the relative distance to a preceding vehicle from the beat signal, and a scanning mechanism 12 for rotary driving the transceiver, wherein the modulation period of the FM modulation wave is varied and the rotational angle range of the scanning mechanism is varied depending on the relative speed and the relative distance to a preceding vehicle.
