To constitute a vehicle-mounted camera more simply than a conventional one in technology for controlling a display mode to a user of a taken image of an on-vehicle camera on the basis of detection of an obstacle with an obstacle sensor.
When any of a plurality of obstacle sensors detects an obstacle (110, 130), a vehicle outside image taking display system clips a detection area corresponding to the obstacle sensor used for the detection from a taken image supplied from a camera (180) and displays an image (195) in which a detection position of the obstacle is superimposed on the clipped image without viewpoint transformation while a distance to the obstacle is farther away than a reference distance (170). When the distance to the obstacle becomes shorter than the reference distance (170), the system clips a detection area corresponding to the obstacle sensor employed for the detection from the taken image from the camera, applies bird's-eye view transformation to the clipped image (190) and displays the superimposed image (195) in which a detection position of the obstacle is superimposed on the clipped image.
