Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promptly recognize the interruption of an adjacent preceding vehicle by detecting the boundary line of a present vehicle lane and an adjacent lane based on photographed image conditions and judging whether or not it is an interrupting vehicle based on the size of the inclination angle of an advancing direction to the boundary line of the receding vehicle of the adjacent lane.
SOLUTION: Conditions in front of the vehicle photographed by a camera 12 are inputted to a microcomputer 31, whether or not a white line is present in the images is judged, and when the white line is present, a range surrounded by the white line is considered as the present vehicle lane and the outer sides (both sides) are considered as the adjacent lanes. Then, the edge shape of an image-recognized object and the edge shape peculiar to the vehicle stored in a ROM 32 beforehand are compared and the adjacent preceding vehicle is extracted from the images of the camera. Further, the advancing form of the adjacent preceding vehicle is detected, whether or not the inclination of the vehicle exceeds 30° for instance is judged, and when it exceeds 30°, it is considered that it is to advance to the present vehicle lane.
