PURPOSE: To improve the convenience, the reliability, and the marketable value by expanding the displayed map on a reduced scale of map information in accordance with reduction of the distance between a recognized user's own vehicle position and an objective position and displaying the distance to the destination on the displayed map.

CONSTITUTION: An optimum route from the present user's own vehicle position to a set destination Pend is set and is displayed on the screen of a CRT display device 6 on the meter cluster side. The distance from the present position to the destination Pend is always calculated and is displayed on the part of a scale meter 30 on the map display face in real time by the level indicator system. When the distance from the user's own vehicle position to the destination Pend is <2km, the map on a reduced scale of corresponding route map information at this running time is expanded and the map of detailed contents is displayed. Thus, the convenience as a running guide device is improved, and the reliability is simultaneously improved, and the marketable value is improved also.
