Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent the head and neck of an occupant who sits on a vehicle seat from suffering from a fatal injury when the vehicle is imposed with an impact lateral load.
CONSTITUTION: A protection gas bag unit against an impact lateral load is set to a vehicle seat consisting of a seat cushion 2, a back rest 3 and a head rest 4. A gas bag 9 incorporated into the gas bag unit is folded and accommodated in a container 8, during a non-operated time, which is attached to the vehicle seat, and during an operated time, the bag is inflated and deploys between the occupant's head and neck and the side structure of a vehicle 1, which is very close to the occupant.
