PURPOSE: To automatically shift the shift rails corresponding to high speed side shift ratios, e.g. shift rails corresponding to sixth and seventh gears, by moving a shift lever to an 'automatic' position to operate an electronic control device while a vehicle driver manually shifts the shift rails corresponding to low speed side shift ratios, e.g. shift rails corresponding to first through fifth gears, with the normal shift lever.
CONSTITUTION: Shift rails 28, 30, 32 corresponding to low speed side shift ratios are shifted by a gear shift lever 24 operated by a vehicle driver. When the gear shift lever is shifted to an 'automatic' position, an automatic shift block 70 is moved, and an electronic control device 71 is set to an operating state. Three-way valves 92, 94 are selectively operated by the shift signal from the electronic device 71, and a piston 56 is operated. An auxiliary shift rail 36 coupled with the shift rail 34 corresponding to the high speed side shift ratio is shifted by the piston 56, and the high speed side shift ratio is automatically selected.
