To accurately calculate a vehicle speed without any influence of a running environment by computing it on the basis of a measurement result of a time interval between maximum values of manual driving power.
A vehicle with an auxiliary power device is provided with a vehicle operating unit 1 operating a vehicle, a manual driving unit 2 and an auxiliary power driving unit 3 driving the vehicle operating unit 1, and a control unit 4 controlling the auxiliary power driving unit 3. In the control unit 4, manual driving power transmitted from the manual driving unit 2 to the vehicle operating unit 1 is detected by means of a manual driving power detecting unit 5 so as to be outputted to a speed computing unit 6. The speed computing unit 6 detects a maximum value of the manual driving power from the manual driving power detecting unit 5 and measures a time interval from the time when the maximum value is attained to the time when the following maximum value is attained. Then, a cycle of manual driving power is found, and on the basis of the found cycle, a vehicle speed is computed. In this way, a vehicle speed can be computed without any influence of a running environment or arranging any rotational speed detection sensor in the auxiliary power driving unit 3.
