To allow a vertical clothing press to surely and smoothly exhibit an elongating function whereby clothing such as trousers is elongated upward with the movement of a movable plate, so that pressing action can be achieved more effectively.
This press comprises a vertical long fixed plate 2 and a movable plate 7 pivotally attached at its lower end to the fixed plate to face the fixed plate 2 and capable of rotation between an open position where the plates roughly take the form of V on side view and a closed position where they are in intimate contact with each other. The press has an elongation means 38 which, as the movable plate 7 is rotated in the closing direction in which it is brought close to the fixed plate 2, clamps and pushes up the upper end of clothing sandwiched between the plates, thus elongating the clothing upward. The elongation manes 38 comprises freely rotating rollers 39 provided at the upper end of either the fixed plate 2 or the movable plate 7 and a pressing member 40 provided at the upper end of the fixed or movable plate in such a way as to face the rollers, so that it is pressed into contact with the rollers via the clothing as the plates approach each other, allowing the rollers to produce a rotating force in the direction for pushing up the clothing.
