To provide a vertical mill which prevents wear of labyrinth seals and suppression of a pressure roller rotation which are caused by fine coal powder clogging between the labyrinth seals.

The vertical mill includes: a housing for forming classifying chambers; a crushing table 1 housed in the lower part of the housing and rotatably driven by a table driving device; an axis holder 17 for freely rotatably holding a pressure roller 4; labyrinth seals 30 installed between the pressure roller and the axis holder; and a roller pressing device for pressing the pressure roller to the crushing table to crush lumpy matters thereon. The labyrinth seals are composed of a rotary labyrinth ring 16 installed on the pressure roller and a fixed labyrinth ring 21 installed in the axis holder, wherein a scraper 57 is provided for the rotary labyrinth ring and a notch 56 is formed in the fixed labyrinth ring.
