To suppress enlargement and complication of equipment, and suppress noise generation or durability degradation in a vertical mill.
A grinding table 15 is supported in a housing 11 by a rotation shaft center along a vertical direction to be capable of being driven and rotated. A grinding roller 16 is rotatably supported above the grinding table 15 by a first support shaft 17, and is made to be rotatable together with the grinding table by contact of the outer peripheral face of the roller with the upper face of the table 15. A support arm 18 supporting the first support shaft 17 is swingably supported to the housing 11 by a second support shaft 19 so that the grinding roller 16 freely approaches or departs from the table 15. A reaction force load-imparting device 20 having a damper 31 filled with a magnetic fluid 35 is provided to impart a reaction force load opposing a direction in which the roller 16 departs from the table 15 to the roller 16 from the support arm 18. Further, there is provided a dust-proof device preventing the magnetic body included in a solid material supplied onto the table 15 from intruding in the damper 31 side of the reaction force load-imparting device 20.
