PURPOSE: To prevent channelling of culture solution in a packed column contg. solid particles and to remove bubbles sticking to the solid particles by dividing a vertical reaction tank for treating the culture soln. and packed with solid particles into plural chambers in the altitudinal direction enabling the culture soln. to cause pulsating movement.
CONSTITUTION: A vertical reaction tank e.g. a cultivating tank 10 is divided into plural chambers, e.g. 5 chambers 12aW12e in the altitudinal direction with a dividing means 20 permitting passage of culture solution. A means 30 for checking flowing out of solid particles toward the bottom is included corresponding to a means 20. A part of the means 30 and 20 are moved repeatedly vertically by a moving means 40 giving pulsating movement to the introduced culture solution. In the stage of cultivation. solid particles are packed through a nozzle 11a in a tank 10, and culture soln. is introduced from a nozzle 11d. The culture soln. flows upward through solid particle layers in the chambers 12aW12e, a means 20, and a space 34. During this time, cultivation is performed by the catalytic effect of the solid particles. By this method, aimed purpose is attained and cultivation efficiency is improved.
