Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vibration damping system for a structure, which can sufficiently absorb primary-mode vibrations of the structure with an additional vibration system by increasing inter-story displacements caused by the primary-mode vibrations of the structure transmitted to a second mass damper, and can therefore appropriately suppress the vibrations of the structure.SOLUTION: A first mass dampers 2 arranged in multiple stories of a structure B include first inertial-mass elements 14 for suppressing vibrations of the structure B in a predetermined vibration mode of the secondary or higher order. Second mass dampers 32L,32R include second inertial-mass elements 32c and viscosity damping element 32g, and are connected to the uppermost one of the multiple stories via transmission members 31L,31R and to the lowermost story such that the second mass dampers 32L,32R and the transmission members 31L,31R constitute an additional vibration system 3. The stiffness of the transmission members 31L,31R, the mass of the second inertial-mass elements 32c, and the damping coefficients of the viscosity damping elements 32g are set such that the natural frequency of the additional vibration system 3 synchronizes with the primary natural frequency of the structure B.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
