PURPOSE: To provide a vibration gyroscope having stable characteristics and high Q by using a vibrator having Q higher than that of a piezoelectric element and having the coefficient of 'thermal expansion approximate to that of the piezoelectric element.
CONSTITUTION: A vibrator 12 is formed into a regular triangle prism shape using an insulating non-metal material having Q higher than that of piezoelectric elements 20a-20c and the coefficient of thermal expansion approximate to that of the piezoelectric elements 20a-20c. Pattern electrodes 14,16,18 are formed to three side surfaces of the vibrator 12 and the piezoelectric elements 20a-20c are formed to the planar parts of the electrodes 14,16,18. The vibrator 12 is subjected to bending vibration in the direction vertical to the forming surface of the element 20c. When a vibration gyroscope 10 is rotated around its axis in this state, the vibration direction of the vibrator 12 is changed by Coriolis force. As a result, a difference is generated between the voltages generated in the elements 20a, 20b and this output difference is measured to detect rotary angular velocity.
