PURPOSE: To enhance the accuracy of control even while there is rough burning in an engine by causing the device stated in the title and using an optimization method using a convergence factor to detect rough burning in the engine and then vary the convergence factor.
CONSTITUTION: A rough burning detection means 40 detects rough burning in an engine E in accordance with an intake air amount signal (f), a crank angle signal (g), a cam shaft signal (s) and an air-fuel ratio signal (p) from an ECU 38, and a knock sensor output signal (p) and an output signal (z) of a distortion gauge 54 mounted on the engine E, the ECU 38 controlling fuel injection to the engine E. A signal indicating that detection is sent to a drive signal generation means 6. The drive signal generation means 6 varies the value of a convergence factor μ according to the signal; i.e., the signals (f), (g), (s), (p), (q) are employed in sequence to detect whether or not rough burning takes place in the engine, and when rough burning is detected a three- dimensional map is employed to vary the convergence factor μ.
