PURPOSE: To reduce an operating sound noise of a silver salt camera recorded simultaneously in the case of video image pickup by detecting an operation start point of the camera when the silver salt camera is operated in the video image pickup state and selecting and activating a noise reduction device in response to the operation.

CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a microphone 1, a gain amplifier 2 amplifying a signal from the microphone 1, and a control circuit 3 controlling the gain of the amplifier 2. When a shutter of a silver salt camera is depressed in the usual recording state, a shutter noise sound is generated. The control circuit 3 detects a shutter start signal and decreases the gain of the amplifier only for a period when the shutter noise is produced. Similarly when noise is generated by the operation independently of video image pickup such as winding or rewinding of the silver salt camera, the control circuit 3 detects a start point of the operation and decreases the gain of the amplifier during the noise period. Thus, the noise sound from the silver salt camera is reduced with the simple circuit.
