Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality of a video image after compression as a while by adjusting a generated bit amount in response to complicatedness of a pattern for each part of video data.
SOLUTION: A real difficulty data calculation circuit 282 calculates real difficulty data D1 corresponding to a data amount after compression based on index data denoting complicatedness of a pattern of a video image (ME residue, flatness and intra AC and activity). A parameter calculation circuit 286 adjusts a parameter Rj' in response to the occupant amount of a VBV(video buffering verifier) buffer. An object data amount calculation circuit 284 multiplies a multiple based on the real difficulty data Dj with the parameter Rj' adjusted by the parameter calculation circuit 286 to calculate the object data amount Tj denoting the object value of the data amount of the video image after compression. A quantization index QIND is calculated from the object data amount Tj and used for the compression coding to realize rate control.
