To provide a video playback device for performing fast forwarding and fact backwarding of video by synthesizing primary video from an optical disk with secondary video being streaming video to display them.
The video playback device comprises a reading part (19) for reading first video information accompanied with position information from an optical disk, a communicating part (11) for downloading second video information from an external device in synchronization with the first video information through a network, a decoding part (23) for decoding the first video information read by the reading part and the second video information downloaded by communicating part, and a control part (30 and 42) for synthesizing the second video information in a picture corresponding to the first video signal and outputting the second video information, continuously and partially downloading the second video information corresponding to position information where fast forwarding or fast backwarding of the first video information is performed without interrupting the downloading of the second video information when receiving a fast forwarding or fast backwarding instruction signal during outputting the synthesized video, and downloading the second video information insufficient in the partial downloading when receiving a playback instruction again.
