PURPOSE: To obtain a composite video signal which can utilize a part of an original video signal cut off at the time of editing by replacing and recording several fields in a prescribed number of fields of a main signal and several fields of a sub-signal.
CONSTITUTION: One of video signals (a)-(c) obtained from plural video cameras 1-3 is set as a main signal, and other video signals are set as sub-signals. In such a state, changeover switch circuits SW1, SW2 are switched by switching signals (d), (e) from a switching signal generating circuit 5, and the signals (a)-(c) are relayed alternatively to a synthesizing circuit 6 by a frame unit. The circuit 6 forms a composite video signal for keeping a position on a time base of a field of the sub-signal roughly constant by inserting at intervals the field of the sub-signal at every prescribed number of fields of the main signal, and supplies it to a recording means 8 together with a sub-signal discriminating signal generated by a discriminating signal generating circuit 7. In such a way, a still picture is reproduced by extracting the field of the sub-signal, and can be reproduced as a frame feed.
