Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the video signal processing unit, the color video camera and the processing method for a video signal where a luminance compression circuit is surely operated, a saturation is preserved and a wide dynamic range is secured. SOLUTION: A maximum value detection circuit 62 consisting of a NAM (non additive mixer) circuit detects a signal with a highest signal level from three primary color signals R, G, B fed to input terminals 61R, 61G, 61B as a luminance signal namY, a high luminance compression circuit 63 compresses a signal level of the detected luminance signal namY according to a predetermined compression curve, a divider 64 calculates a ratio of levels of the luminance signal namY' whose level is compressed and of the luminance signal namY, and multipliers 65R, 65G, 65B multiply the calculated signal level ratio with the three primary color signals R, G, B to generate a color video signal represented by the three primary color signals R, G, B with which the compression rate is multiplied.
