PURPOSE: To attain multiple recording a sound signal and a video signal without causing crosstalk to a sound by applying an FM modulation to a luminance signal, applying PM modulation to a chrominance signal with orthogonal two-phase and recording the result.

CONSTITUTION: A luminance signal Y is inputted to an FM modulator 1, where a modulated luminance signal Y' is formed. On the other hand, the chrominance signals R-Y and B-Y and their carriers fc1, fc2 are inputted to an orthogonal two-phase PM modulator 9 comprising a phase shift circuit 2, two balanced modulators 3, 4, three synthesis circuits 5, 6, 7 and an inverting circuit 8, where a signal C' in which two PM chrominance signals (R-Y)' and (B-Y)' are multiplexed is formed. A modulated sound signal in a reproducing signal is divided at each carrier frequency by band pass filters 20, 21 and 48, they are given to gates 30, 31 and 46 respectively and each gate is turned on periodically at each track and the result is given to an FM demodulator 32. Even if a video head 17 bridges over adjacent tracks Tn-1 and Tn+1, since only the gate 30 is turned on, the sound signal using f3, f2 ar carriers is not demodulated, only a sound signal on a desired track Tn is obtained and no crosstalk is produced.
