Abstract:
To provide a viscosity index improver excellent in shear stability, low in HTHS viscosity and high in viscosity index, and to provide a lubricant composition containing the same.SOLUTION: There is provided a viscosity index improver containing a (co)polymer (A) of a monomer (a) represented by the following formula (1) as a structural monomer: [Ris a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; -X- is a group represented by -O- or -NH-; Ris a 1-10C alkylene group; ORis a 2-4C oxyalkylene group; p is an integer of 0-10, wherein Rmay be the same or different when p is 2 or more; -X- is a group represented by -O-, -O(AO)-, or -NH-, wherein A is a 2-4C alkylene group, and m is an integer of 1-10, and wherein A may be the same or different when m is 2 or more; and Ris a residue obtained by removing one hydrogen atom from a hydrocarbon polymer comprising an isobutylene or 1,2-butylene as an essential constitutional unit].SELECTED DRAWING: None
