Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viscosity index improver giving an excellent low- temperature viscosity and having good oxidation stability and to provide a lubricating oil containing the same.
SOLUTION: This improver comprises a random copolymer (A) essentially consisting of (a1) alkyl acrylate monomer with a 10C or lower alkyl and (a2) at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of a conjugated diene, acetylene, a substituted acetylene, an alkyl vinyl ether, and an alkyl allyl ether, wherein the amount of component (a) is above 70 wt.%, and that of (a2) is 0.05-3 wt.%.
