Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant oil composition using a viscosity index improver having high viscosity index and good shear stability and containing a polymer high in fluidity near room temperature and easy to be handled when using the same as a base oil composition.SOLUTION: There are provided a viscosity index improver containing a polymer having a unit derived from maleimide monomer (hereafter "(a) unit" and a unit derived from alkyl (meth)acrylate having an aliphatic hydrocarbon group with 2 to 6 carbon atoms (hereafter "(b) unit") as essential constitutional units and viscosity measured by following conditions of 30 Pa s or less at 25°C, and a lubricant oil composition containing a lubricant oil and the viscosity index improver. A solution consisting of 80 mass% of Group III base oil in specified in American Petroleum Institute (API) Classification (viscosity index 122, 40°C kinetic viscosity 19.6 mm/s) and 20 mass% of the polymer is measured by an E type viscometer (Toki Sangyo:TVE-35H 3°×R9.7 rotor).SELECTED DRAWING: None
