Abstract:

To provide a new visible light-responsive composition which exhibits high photocurrent responsiveness when irradiated with visible light and from which a photocatalyst and a photosensor are formed.

The visible light-responsive composition is composed of Fe, Zr, M and oxygen. M is one element selected from the group consisting of Al, Zn, In, Sn and Ta. When the total of Fe, Zr and M is 100%, the element content ratio (molar ratio) of Fe is 50-85%, that of Zr is 8-48% and that of M is 0.01-29%. A photoelectrode, the photosensor and the photocatalyst are formed from the visible light-responsive composition. A method for electrolyzing water by using the photosensor and the photocatalyst is provided.
