CONSTITUTION: The image pickup device 6 which image-picks up a component and a substrate, the scan means 14 which performs scan of light-and-shade level in a prescribed area including the electrode 2 and at least a part of a lead wire 4 on the image data of the component 1 and the substrate 3, respectively, and the position recognition means 16 which finds the terminal parts of the electrode 2 and the lead wire 4 from the change of the light-and-shade level obtained by the scan of the scan means 14 and recognizes the positions of the component 1 and the substrate 3 from the terminal positions. Thereby, it is possible to accurately perform the position recognition without moving the visual position and providing the mark for alignment, etc., and furthermore, even when the interval of the electrode 2 of the IC chip 1, etc., is set at random.
