Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new compound useful for treating diseases such as osteoporosis or osteomalacia based on calcium dysbolism or as an antitumor agent, having controlling action on calcium metabolism and differention-induction action.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R1 is H or OH; R2 is a lower alkyl, lower alkenyl or lower alkynyl) such as 2β-ethyl-1α,3β-dihydroxy-9,10- secocholesta-5,7,10(19)-triene. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting an epoxy compound of formula II (R3 is H or OH; among R4 to R7, R4 and R5 form double bond, and R6 and R7 form double bond, or R5 and R6 form double bond, and R4 and R7 are bonded to form dienophile capable of protecting conjugated double bond) with a compound of the formula R8MgX (R8 is a lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, etc., X is a halogen) or a compound of the formula R9Li (R9 is a lower alkyl, lower alkynyl, etc., 9 to give a compound of formula III (R10 is a lower alkyl, etc., R11 is H or OH) and subjecting to light irradiation reaction and thermal isomerization.
