Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enable handy measurement of the cavity volume in an object to be measured by setting as object to be measured a drum can which houses, for example, solid waste generated from a nuclear power plant. CONSTITUTION:A drum can 2 which houses a solid waste 1 is housed into a measuring container 4, which is linked to a standard container 5 with a known volume and a vacuum pump 6 and vacuum valves 7a, 7b and 7c are connected between both the containers 4 and 5 while manometers 3a and 3b are mounted on both the containers 4 and 5. An apparent volume of the measuring container 4 is determined from a pressure change between the measuring container 4 and the standard container 5. In view of the fact that the volume of the measuring container 4 is equal to a subtraction of the cavity volume from the sum of the apparent volume of the measuring container 4 and the volume of the drum can 2, the volume of the gap is measured.
