To provide a volume reduction/storage method for scattered ash in which scattered ash can be kept in a volume reduction state, a storage space is reduced, and the need of transfer of the ash upon transportation of the same is eliminated.

There is used a container 1 including a cylindrical container body 2 with opposite ends thereof opened and covers removably attached to the openings in the container body. Flying ash 81 is supplied to and compressed in the container body 2 with the one opening closed with a lower cover 4. Also, the other opening in the container body 2 in which compressed scattered ash 82 becoming a compressed state is contained is closed with an upper cover 3, and after the container 1 containing the compressed scattered ash 82 is kept, the compressed flying ash 82 is discharged from the container 1 brought into a cover opened state and is crushed into a powdered scattered ash.
