A VVVF inverter device which controls the rotation of an induction motor is provided with a racing detector 1 which detects racing from the rotational frequency of the induction motor and outputs a detecting signal, a current pattern control section 2 which outputs a motor current pattern for setting a motor current based on the presence/absence of the racing detecting signal, and an effective value calculating section 3 which calculates an effective value from the motor current. The inverter device is also provided with a constant-current control system 8 which outputs a racing frequency correcting amount used for correcting a racing frequency from the deviation between the motor current pattern and the effective value of the motor current and a racing frequency calculating section 7 which calculates the racing frequency based on the racing frequency correcting amount.
