Abstract:
PURPOSE:To control the temperature on the wall face of a piston combustion chamber to the optimal level by controlling the quantity of cooling oil to be fed to the backface side of a wall section which defines the piston combustion chamber in accordance with the engine load and the rotation. CONSTITUTION:An annular space 6 is formed at the backface side of a wall section 5 which defines the piston combustion chamber 2 of a ceramic piston 1, and the cooling oil is fed through a cooling jet 10 into said space 6. A microcomputer 11 operates the quantity of the cooling oil to be fed so as to control the temperature in the piston combustion chamber to the optimal level in accordance with the engine load and the engine rotation, and controls the quantity of oil to be fed from an oil pump 14 through a flow control valve 12 to a cooling jet 10.
