To provide a washing drying machine which does not increase ambient humidity and maintains ambient environment, and sustains stable drying operation.
The washing drying machine or a laundry dryer includes: a rotating drum or an inner tub for housing laundries; and a heat pump which has a compressor for compressing a coolant, a condenser for radiating the heat of the compressed coolant, an expanding mechanism for decompressing the coolant, and an evaporator where the compressed coolant absorbs heat from the periphery, the heat pump being configured to cause the coolant to be circulated while repeatedly compressed and expanded, wherein air is circulated in the order of the condenser, the rotating drum or the inner tub (outer tub), the evaporator and the condenser when drying the laundries. The washing drying machine or the laundry dryer is characterized in that in a return duct for returning circulated air from the rotating drum or the inner tub (outer tub) to the heat pump, a part of circulated air is discharged after dehumidified.
