A washing and drying machine S conducts the exhaust drying operation in a drying process comprising: introducing ambient air via an inlet valve 13; and discharging at least all or a portion of air discharged from an inner tub 10 through a drain hose 8. If the washing and drying machine determines the finish of the exhaust drying based on the temperature rise detected by a temperature sensor 64a in the exhaust drying operation and the determined time of the exhaust drying finish is earlier than a predicted finish time of the drying by a prescribed amount of time or more, the exhaust drying operation is switched by a water-cooled dehumidifying and drying operation, which comprises dehumidifying by feeding water to a circulation duct 30 downstream of an outer tank 20 while circulating air in the order of a fan 41, heater 42, outer tank 20 and fan 41.
