Abstract:
A washing machine having a steam generator (30), which prevents the accumulation of scale in the steam generator (30) due to the long-term use thereof, and a method for controlling the same. The washing machine includes a water supply valve (22) for supplying water to the inside of the steam generator (30) therethrough so as to cool the steam generator (30) when the operating time of the steam generator (30) exceeds a predetermined time, and a controller (46) for controlling the operation of a heater (33) for heating the water supplied through the water supply valve (22).
