To provide a washing machine and a washing and drying machine which can prevent a laundry lint collecting case from coming off into a washing tub (inner tub) even when the laundry hits the laundry lint collecting case during washing operation/drying operation.

The washing machine includes an inner lid 34 for opening and closing an opening through which the laundry is put in and taken out and which is arranged in an outer tub cover 300, and a laundry lint removing device 33 which is arranged on the underside of the outer tub cover 300 and is so constructed that the laundry lint collecting case is held by a holding case and can be freely taken out and put in. In this case, the laundry lint removing device 33 has a handle 512 which is arranged on the front side of the laundry lint collecting case and is gripped for taking or putting the laundry lint collecting case out or in, a handle engaging means which engages/disengages the handle 512 in/from the holding case by screwing operation of the handle 512 and screwing constraining means which restrains the screwing operation of the handle 512 by closing of the inner lid 34 and releases the constraint by opening of the inner lid 34.
