To provide a vertical washing machine of dehydrating and drying type, which exhibits a high drying efficiency by reducing pressure loss and ensuring the air rate for drying.

An air blower 92 sends warm air heated by a heater 94 in a washing and drying tub 30 in which clothes are put and which can rotate about a vertical axis. The warm air which is discharged from the washing and dehydrating tub 30 after having a drying effect is partially returned to the air blower 92 trough a circulation path 100. A part of air sucked into the air blower 92 is air in the washing machine 1. In this case, since the ratio of the air rate blown into the washing and dehydrating tub 30 to the air rate returned to the air blower 92 from the circulation path 100 is equal or substantially equal to the ratio of the entire area of the suction opening of the air blower 92 to the connection area of the suction opening 95 for the circulation path 100 connected to the air blower 92, air of the two qualities can be sucked and mixed in a natural way and efficient air blowing can be performed by reducing the internal loss.
