To provide a drum type washing machine having improved washing performance and reduced washing time.
A washing machine includes: a rotary drum 3 which accommodates laundry; a water receiving tank 2 which accommodates the rotary drum 3; a water supply valve 11 which supplies water into the water receiving tank 2; water level detection means 12 which detects a water level in the water receiving tank 2; a circulation pump 10 which discharges washing water and rinse water in the water receiving tank 2 into the rotary drum 3; a heater 22 which heats the washing water in the water receiving tank 2; and control means 14 which controls the water supply valve 11, the circulation pump 10, the heater 22 and the like, and which performs a washing step. At the starting point of the washing step, the control means 14 controls the water supply valve 11 to supply water to a prescribed water level, and then it heats the washing water by actuating the heater 22, and after the stop of the heater 22, it actuates the circulation pump 10.
