To provide a washing machine capable of performing a tub drying operation according to a situation when it is set to shift to a tub drying operation succeedingly after the completion of the washing operation.
A washing machine of this embodiment has a function to shift to a tub drying operation in which a water tub and a rotary tub are dried by tub drying means succeedingly after the washing operation of laundry put into the rotary tub is completed. It includes lid opening/closing detection means which detects an opening/closing state of a lid for opening/closing a laundry inlet/outlet. At the time of the shift to the tub drying operation, different tub drying operations are performed according to the detection result of the lid opening/closing detection means.
