PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a washing machine using a motor by inverter control and capable of suppressing an increase in noise during a breaking operation and suppressing an adverse effect on other devices.SOLUTION: The washing machine comprises a motor 5 that is driven by an inverter circuit 4 and rotates a washing and dewatering bin or an agitator vane, rotor rotation speed detection means 6 to detect a rotor rotation speed of the motor 5, and control means 10 to control the inverter circuit 4. During a break operation of the motor 5, the control means 10 stops a brake control that is carried out by controlling a motor current and a phase difference between an induced voltage and the motor current when a rotation speed of the motor 5 detected by the rotor rotation speed detection means 6 equals to or is higher than a rotation speed at which it is determined as stopped and equals to or lower than a predetermined rotation speed. Thus, it is possible to suppress an increase in noise generated by a device and suppress an adverse effect on other devices, while reducing cost of a countermeasure component.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
