PURPOSE: To obtain an appropriate washing corresponding to a type of cleanser by changing contents of a washing course corresponding to the type of cleanser used.

CONSTITUTION: A cleanser select switch 15, provided on an operation panel surface of a washing machine, switches types of cleanser by sliding in the lateral direction. Number 23 indicates a select key of three kinds (A, B and C) washing courses, each of which consists of respective processes of washing-rinsing (twice)- dehydrating. Washing course A is a standard one, Washing course B is one in which time of the respective process is shortened relative to that in Washing course A, and Washing course C is one in which the time of the respective process is lengthened relative to that in Washing course A. A microcomputer, when Washing course A is started, first discriminates a switched state of the cleanser select switch 15, then changes contents of a washing course in correspondence to the type of a set cleanser and carries out a selected washing.
