At the approx. center of a control panel which is arranged on the upper surface of the front edge part of the top cover of this washing machine, displays 22-31 and various kinds of control parts by which a user selects a desired operation course from a plurality of operations courses, are provided. For respective displays 24-31, respective operation courses are indicated by illustrations (pictures), and for the display 24, a 'memory course' is indicated by illustrations of a note and a pen, for the display 24, a 'peacefully sleeping' course is indicated by an illustration of a sleeping toddler, and for the display 26, a 'washing tank cleaning' course is indicated by an illustration of a tank cleaning with a rag. Also, for the display 27, a 'splash, splash' course is indicated by an illustration of socks being sunk in water, and for the display 28, a 'blanket' course is indicated by an illustration of a rounded blanket.
