PURPOSE: To obtain a waste paper treating apparatus capable of keeping the security of content or information of the letters, figures or drawings printed on waste paper and suitable for the efficient recycling of waste paper for the manufacture of wood-free paper.
CONSTITUTION: A waste paper feeding apparatus 6 and a shredding mechanism 10 are placed at the upper part in a water tank 3. The small pieces of waste paper having indefinite shape and shredded with the shredding mechanism 10 are stirred in water W in the water tank 3 until the paper pieces are further divided into smaller pieces to form a quasi-sludge state. After leaving the pieces in the quasi-sludge state for a prescribed period, the small pieces of waste paper are discharged from the water tank 3 together with water by opening a stop valve 12. Water is sufficiently removed from the sludge by a dehydration apparatus 13 and the sludge is dropped on a placing plate 25 in a casing 21 of a press 20. The placing plate 25 is moved upward with a driving device 23 and the sludge is pressed between the casing and a pressing plate 22. The pressing easing 21 is lowered by a prescribed distance and the compressed waste paper (m) is forwarded and guided outward by the action of a transporting machine 19.
