Abstract:
To provide a material excellent in water absorption, using a carboxymethylated starch derived from biomass.SOLUTION: A water-absorptive composite material comprises a laminar silicate dispersed in a matrix of carboxymethylated starch. A method for manufacturing a composite material comprises the steps of mixing a carboxymethylated starch and a laminar silicate, and homogenizing the mixture such that the laminar silicate is dispersed in a matrix of the carboxymethylated starch.
