To provide a water-based coating composition for can interior surface coating which is prepared without using a BPA-derived constituting component and substantially without using a surfactant deteriorating the boiling resistance of a cured coating film after baking and which can form a coating film excellent in processibility and adhesiveness and causing no change in the aroma and taste of a drink; and a coated can of which the interior surface is coated with the composition.
The water-based coating composition contains a composite resin emulsion which is prepared by subjecting a monomer emulsion (1) containing an emulsified component (A) containing an ethylenic unsaturated monomer (A1) and a polyester (A2), at least one COOH-containing component (B) selected from acrylic copolymers (B1) each having COOH groups and polyesters (B2) each having COOH groups, a basic compound (C), and water (D) to radical polymerization in the presence of water (G).
