PURPOSE: A water based ink for ink jet recording, obtained by blending a specific direct dye with a specific assistant dye, having improved solubility and black hue and high recorded image density and capable of giving recorded images having improved and light and water resistance.
CONSTITUTION: A water based ink for ink jet recording obtained by blending a direct dye expressed by formula I (Ar is a group expressed by formula II, III, etc.; R is H, methyl, etc.; M is Li+, K+, etc.), e.g. a compound expressed by formula IV, etc., with one or more assistant dyes of C.I. Direct Green 63 and 80, C.I. direct Yellow 28, 44, 50, 86 and 142, C.I. Acid Yellow 23 and 79 and C.I. Direct Blue 86, 87, 106 and 200 and dissolving the resultant blend in a solvent, preferably diethylene glycol, etc.
