Abstract:

To provide an active material for a battery having a low environmental load, capable of being applied to an aqueous lithium secondary battery having an aqueous electrolyte and providing high charge/discharge cycle characteristics; and to provide the aqueous secondary battery using the active material for the battery.

The active material for the battery contains titanium pyrophosphate having the basic composition of (TiO)2P2O7as a main component. The aqueous secondary battery 1 comprises a positive electrode 2 including a positive active material, a negative electrode 3 including a negative active material, and the aqueous electrolyte prepared by dissolving a lithium salt in water. In the aqueous lithium secondary battery 1, the negative active material contains the titanium pyrophosphate having the basic composition of (TiO)2P2O7as the main component. Or the positive active material contains a substance capable of inserting and releasing Li at the potential nobler than that of the titanium pyrophosphate as the main component.
