Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a water-cutting-off material (water-cutting-off tape) with the T-shaped water cutting-off property improved without increasing the amt. of a water-absorptive composition on the surface of a sheet substrate and a suitable for an optical fiber cable.

CONSTITUTION: A water-absorptive composition layer consisting essentially of a water-absorptive polymer grain and an org. binder is formed on the surface of a sheet substrate of polyester spun-bonded nonwoven fabric or the like to constitute a water-cutting-off material 16 for a cable. The substrate is previously impregnated with a hydrophilicity-imparting agent such as polyethylene glycol. The amt. of the agent to impregnate the substrate is preferably controlled to be 0.5-4g/m2.
